WD TV Live Hub (1TB) suddenly fails via HDMI for 1 TV

Hi. I have been using this for long time now and coudn’t be happier with it. Anyway few days back i unplugged the hdmi cable from the device (not the tv) becaue i was connecting it to the macbook vis HDMI adaptor as i wanted to watch NFL. Once i was done I connected it back to the device and now no signals appear at all! It keeps saying no signal. I tried many times even changing HDMI cable and changing from HDMI 1 to 2 and to 3. Nothing seems to work. I toold th device and tried it on other TV and it works after i press home buttong. I then tried it with the original tv again but nothing seems to work. It works only when i use the AV cable. Even then the picture seems too stretched and i tried going option and choosing hdmi auto and match videos fram rates etc. It asks if i want to change resolution i click yes. After it shows HDMI auto for 2-3 secs it keeps reverting to Composite PAL again. Please help. How can i get it to work with HDMI again. I am guessing when i connected it to mac and when i pulled it out something must have gone wrong. Anyway hope someone can help please. I was already on the latest firmware by the way.

Thanks

check the settings on the TV, something might be different.

I am not sure what to check on TV. I even tried resetting TV to factory settings but it didn’t seem to help at all. I wonder why this problem is so common. Surely WD should release a fix or something?

I would try putting it on the TV HDMI that it works on and do a full reset. You won’t loose any data on the hard drive but you will have to reset all your passwords for the online stuff like facebook and the weather. Then take it back to the other TV and see what happens.

I have tried as you suggested but it still doesn’t work. It works fine on other TV but not the original. I tried all 3 HDMI slots also and it still doesn’t work. Other HDMI devices work fine. I really don’t understand why this is happening. Please advice.

Thanks

Well sorry to say it sounds like your TV ?

If it works on another TV it takes the Box totally out of the equation. I am confused as you are, especially if you have tried all 3 HDMI connections on your TV.

Are you using the same HDMI cable for both TVs ? , if so this takes the cable out of the loop, has to be something with the TV Im afraid.

This is way way way too strange. If you ever figure this out let us know what it was…dog gone, I would be pulling my hair out. By now I would be either moving a TV around or buying a new one. OR fixing the Hub with a very LARGE hammer!

Yes I am using the same cables also so I guess it comes down to the TV. But all the slots work with other devices that use HDMI. Just WD is messed up. So I’m totally lost. I’m sure it’s something to do with macbook adaptor when I connected that day because before that wd been working just fine for years. **bleep**. Well so happens that I’m getting new TV anyway in a month as I’m moving house. Lets see haha but I still hope this came be fixed.

I think it’s the WD BOX and not the TV because yesterday i use the same HDMI cable and the same slot to connect iPad and it worked like a charm. So this means it’s the WD BOX definitely and not the TV. Hopefully someone can provide more tips please?

Thanks

Ive had some strange things happen to my Hub, and have discovered that resetting via the Reset Hole underneath the Hub does not fix everything. (Which i can only assume is what you tried, since you didnt provide more detailed information)

(resetting via the procedure described in step " 3" however, did fix issues i had … that the Reset Hole Paperclip procedure didnt. )

Try this:
1. With everything switched OFF at the power …connect the Hub to the “Problem TV” using BOTH the HDMI and AV (Composite Red,White,Yellow) cables.

2. Switch everything ON and on your TV Select the AV position (eg.AV1)

3. Once booted up, on the Hub navigate to …
Setup > System > Device Reset > Reset All Settings Back to Factory Default  (press OK)

4. Wait until the Hub has completely rebooted and rebuilt the Media Library (if you have it enabled)

5. Now go to HDMI1 (or 2 or 3) on your TV … Hopefully you will see the stable picture of the Hub.

6. On the Hub select …

Audio/Video Output >  Video Output > HDMI(Auto) etc etc
