There is nothing in the User manual documentation on formatting the hard drive. I needed to remove all files from my system and I started a format. It’s been running for over 50 hours and is not doing anything. How long is this supposed to take? Is it okay to interrupt the format or will it permanently damage the drive? There are no precautions or warnings other than “your data will be lost” in the manual. Can’t find any information on this online. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry for the confusion. Yes I am referring to the Internal Drive via the Internal Disk Manager. After letting it “format” for now over 60 hours, I decided to cancel the operation per the user below. I powered off the device with the remote, and powered it back on. The device came back up to the screen stating that if I format the drive I will lose all of my data and to press “cancel” or “ok.” I pressed “OK” and now it has this message on the screen “Internal Drive Management” and “Formatting internal Storage. Please wait…” I did not get this statement last time I tried to format, I simply had “formatting” with a spinning circular arrow. So hopefully this will format correctly this time and not leave all of my data in tact as it did for the user below. I’ll update again once this finishes. We may need a fix from WD for this.

OK So two attempted formats on the internal drive were unsuccessful. They never complete. Furthermore, after I forcefully ended the hard drive format, the device was not booting correctly. I went in and restored all factory defaults and it rebooted properly this time. I checked the hard disk and it still has all of my data on it (about 130 gb). So, the format option does not work. I have the latest firmware on the device. WD, can we please get a fix for this ASAP! Thank you.
