WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player - RESET VIDEO SETTINGS

Hi, we’ve just bought the TV Live Plus HD Media Player and we’re still trying to install it. Everything was setup and we then decided to play around with the video settings. We still don’t know what we did, but we now can’t access anything. We’ve tried resetting the device, but this doesn’t help. Reading the manual instructions, it says something about needing to synchronise the tv and WD settings, but we’re not sure what to do or what we changed. I’ve played around with the tv settings, but this hasn’t made any difference. Would REALLY appreciate any suggestions as we’d really like to start using it but everything is currently blank. Any suggestions? Thanks!

How are you connecting the WDTV live plus to your TV. Try the composite lead if you are connecting via HDMI. You may have selected an output on the menu which your TV does not support. Did you press the reset for longer than 1 second. If you pressed it for longer (like 10 seconds) you may have changed from NTSC to PAL TV standard.

If you can connect via composite then you can see what the HDMI output is set to and reset it to match your TV.

I assume the power light is on and the WDTV is plugged in.

We can only connect via the composite lead as TV doesn’t use HDMI. I did press reset for longer than 1 second and have done so a number of times to keep trying to reset and nothing changes. It all was working initially and we then stupidly clicked on settings, changed something (I vaguely remember seeing RGB) and since then it’s a blank screen. The initial WD screen comes on, you can see it trying to go into the main screen and then everything goes blank. Everything is plugged in and lights are all on. Have repeatedly also switched off and on but has made no difference

So its switched on and connected to the TV with lights on the WDTV.

Press the side reset button for 1 second only. The WDTV should now reboot. What happens next?

If this does not work, unplug the WDTV from the power for a while ( some minutes) now plug everything back in and retry the 1 second reset.

Tried both and still nothing. WD screen comes on, you see it trying to go to the settings screen, it flashes a bit and then goes black again.

Try this:  Hold the RESET button for TEN seconds.   That will change between NTSC and PAL and vice versa.

If that doesn’t work, try to plug the 3.5mm plug into the COMPONENT jack in the WDTV instead.  You won’t get a normal picture, but you might be able to see enough to change the setting back to whatever you did.

Is the component jack the 3 pronged cable? We use that to plug into the scart so that it connects to the tv and that is our only connection point. So there is no other means to access the settings. Was hoping we could change something on the tv settings so that we can access the WD settings? Surely if we reset the WD box it should install settings back to what they were?

No, the component JACK is the OTHER “Female” jack on the WDTV.

One of the jacks is labeled “A/V,” and is the COMPOSITE and LEFT/RIGHT AUDIO.

The other jack is labeled “Y Pb Pr” and is the COMPONENT output.

Doing a RESET does NOT change the video format.

Oh ok I tried that and it’s just a flickering screen that doesn’t show any kind of picture at all. If I can’t reset it and I can’t see the screen at all I’m a bit stumped at what I can do to see the picture. Does this potentially mean that I can’t use it anymore? We’ve only just bought it…

I’m just new …but reading your post…are you sure it’s plugged in correctly?

Composite is red/white/yellow and you use the supplied 3 prong plug and plug into the AV Out

Component is green/blue/red and you use the supplied 3 prong plug to plug into the Y,Pb,Pr

In your post you mention both…which one does your TV support?

So you have a scart connector. I assume that you plug the lead with the yellow, red and white plugs into a scart adaptor and then you plug that adaptor into the TV scart socket. Some of these adaptors have a switch on, so check to see if the switch is set correctly.

The yellow plug is the video output and the other two are the sound outputs. The jack plug on the other end of the lead should go into the AV socket on the WDTV.

When you start up the WDTV it should first go to a WD logo and then the screen will go blank for about 20 seconds and then another WD logo will come up. Are you saying that you see the first logo but then nothing else.

Are you resetting via the side paperclip button when the WDTV is connected up and powered on.

Are you using the lead that came with the WDTV.

As you see a boot up logo I assume that the yellow video plug is connected to the correct socket on the scart adaptor.

Thank you all SO much! I feel really silly, but I used a paper clip for the first time and that rebooted the system and I now have a perfect screen. Now all I need to do is figure out how to link it to the computer and I’ll be sorted. Thank you, I really appreciate all your help and apologise for the time wasted! Valuable lesson learnt!

Well we got there in the end and thats all that counts. Start a new thread if you have any more problems or questions.

I was seriously thinking of buying ,

Western Digital WD TV Live HD Media Player WDBAAN0000NBK-NESN

some forums i read said that,

would not recognize my network or any file type.

If I pause or rewind it will freeze then play in slow motion. Only fixed by rebooting device. Works fine if I just play the movie all the way through. No bathroom breaks for me!

I have to power it off about every hour because it just stops playing video… especially on youtube. I have to physically remove the power cord because the remote switch doesn’t reboot it…

Clunky interface. Thumbs view is super slow and a pain to get working correctly.
Biggest con is it occastionally looses its ability to connect to my pc via “network shares.” This used to happen rather frequently and could only be fixed by unplugging overnight. (An hour or two wasnt enough) I would have given it two stars for this, but a beta firmware update a couple of weeks ago seems to have fixed the problem. I wasted many hours on this. I’m not sure about the mkv compressed audio thing, but that may be one of the things that froze it up.

It seems like there is more cons than pro with it ,

is it really worth the $99.

or are these post random problems and not common.

You chose an odd place to post (off of a thread that has nothing to do with your questions)

Only you can decide if it’s worth it to you.

Other than HDMI issues common in the Betas, I’ve had very few issues with mine.   My network works pefectly, every file I have plays 100% OK.     Yes, it occassionally hangs and I have to power it off, but that’s rare.

apologies if my question is in the wrong post,

but i figured since i know nothing of this product other than what people have talked about,

it would be best to get input from the closest post i could find regarding the WD live box ,

and it seems to have alot of issues, so feed back is always good for me before a buy a product that seems to have more cons than pros.

but never the less thanks for the feedback

What you have to remember is that people mostly post their problems. The people with no problems are not posting they are using their WDTV live boxes to watch movies and play music.

I have several- a Live, a Live Plus, and very soon a Live Hub. They are well worth the price imo. Sure theres an occiasion issue, but far less than my brothers Apple TV, or my cousins Popcorn Hour. They are simple, yet versitile. As long as you are using a compatible filetype (i’ve run into 1 or 2 that it wouldnt play, but they were custom codecs from digital cameras and stuff) there are very little issue. Most of my videos are in Standard Definition (I don’t need HD for most stuff) to save space on my My Book Worlds (where I stream my videos from) so a lot of the issues people see may be related to high definition stuff as I don’t run into them. Most of my files are xvid and a few are divx.

most files i use are xvid and mkv, mp4 sometimes avi

i use to use a stage 6divx converter but since they went under there where no more updates for it.

so i stopped using divx
