Hi all,
Just wondering if someone of WD are able to confirm firmware version of my disk (have the serial # if needed), since the old PCB of mine got missing. I bought a PCB replace, but this one dont have rom assembled.
I have tried to find this over forums, only found this firmware:
05.01D05
any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!
When you swap WD PCBs, you need to do more than just match the firmware. The “ROM” chip contains unique, drive specific, “adaptive” information. These “adaptives” need to transferred from patient to donor, even when their firmware versions are identical.
If your original PCB has an 8-pin chip at U12, then you need to transfer this chip to your replacement board. The following PCB suppliers include such a service in their price:

Indeed. But my old rom is physically broken
It is possible to recover HDD at least ?
Thanks!
You need commercial software tools to reconstruct the ROM contents. Sometimes there are backups in the hidden firmware zone on the platters, but I think in your case these will be absent.
I suggest you visit The HDD Oracle forum. Perhaps someone will help you.
