Hi well some older systems will not support a 2.5 tb drive. You need to post your specs ie what version of windows xp win 7 32 or 64 bit what mother board does the mother board have the latest bios.
I have EXACTLY the same problem with this drive, only a capacity of 280 GB is shown! I’m running Windows Server 2008 32bit and the drive is attached to a Promise SATA300 TX4 controller card (the controllers BIOS detects the capacity correct!). A WD20EARS and a WD20EARX are working flawless on the same controller. How can i resolve this issue?
i also have this issue running windows home server v1. i am thinking the problem is due to the fact that whs v1 is windows server 2003 based which is windows xp based it might not be supported.
i am currently attempting to update my ahci drivers on my acer easystore h340.
attempted and didnt work - placing a jumper on jumper pins 7-8. will update this list as i trouble shoot.
joe, thanks for the prompt and helpful reply. currently, the drive in question for me is connected to the internal sata hotswap bay. I have tried moving bays, and I have also tried plugging it in using one of my external enclosures (older, 2009), same result.
Since WD still didnt offer a solution, here is what finally turned out to be working for me:
Booting the machine with a linux, like Ubuntu, from USB or DVD and and create a single Partition with GParted, fromatted with NTFS and using GPT instead of MBR. Full capacity is available and useable under Windows Server 2008!
Unfortunately the WD Data Lifeguard tools still report the wrong capacity. Like I mentioned earlier: The BIOS of the Controller recognizes the correct capactiy. So it must be a problem of the MB BIOS or something else…
