WDTV Live disconnects from the HDD after a few seconds/minutes?

Hello all. It’s my first post in this forum and well, I’m very confused about this issue:

The backround:

I tested a wd tv live a few weeks ago with a 2TB HDD via usb 2.0 just to check out it’s capabiltiy of playing 1080p/50fps files. Well, the files playing fine, at least after pause the file for 5 seconds or so - if I don’t pause, it seems like the playback ist just at 25fps or so. So I wrote to the wd-support and after 2 weeks they just point out that the wd tv live not supports these kind of files (1080p/50fps .mts). That’s said I bought my own WD TV LIVE cause at least I’m very happy of being able to play these files. I also bought a external HDD case (fantec qb-35us3) and a WD Caviar green 3TB.

When I connect this case to the wd (via usb 3.0) it’s getting listed after a few seconds but when I start a file (every kind of file-type, not only the files I mentioned above), the WD disconnects from the HDD after a few seconds, sometims after a few minutes… I can’t see any reason for this behaviour… I’ve already tried to search a solution for this issue on the internet, but I wasn’t able to find anything like that.

I already deleted the wd-related files on my HDD , with no effect…

Is there anybody who knows how to solve this problem? I’m running out of ideas right now… and it’s very frustrating…

Thanks in advance !!!

Neo

After hours of brainstorming it seems that the most simple of all options did the job: I reset the wd live and right now everything is fine. Maybe there has been an error with a wrong drive-eject or something like that. But the behaviour of the wd live on all (!) drives I tested after this error is absolutely weird … strange little box…

I have to run a test with a longer video, but I think the wd will not disconnect from the drive even when the file plays more than 15min (like I mentioned in post #1)…

Well… after checking out again with the file where I encountered this problem for the first time I think I have an explanation for this behaviour of the wd live:

so if anybody has a problem with the wd live that stops playback and has malfunctions after that: make a rest and: check out the specific file where the playback stopped… there is a highly chance that the file has a broken strucutre - in my case it’s a mkv-file and I checked it on my pc: the backup copies on each of my other drives came up with the same: the file is broken after 28min…

So, first check out the file before trying something special…
