WDTV Live Network Advice

I just moved from a small apartment into a large 3 bedroom house and it’s obvious I’m going to need to make some changes to how I network my wdtv live (v1, non wireless).  I’m currently running my pc  to a netgear n150 WNR1000 wireless router to wdtv via cat5 over a shared network.  It is all in the living room and it’s no longer realistic to have it this way.  I’m going to put the pc in a loft above the living room and running a long ethernet cable like I did in my apartment is no longer an option.

I’m just wanting some advice on how to effectively run my setup from somebody that knows more about this than I do.  I’ve considered moving the router to the loft and using a wirless adapter for the wdtv or getting an external hard drive and transfer my media over.

I’ve been running my wdtv for years by ethernet and it’s been great.  I have limited experience with running it wireless.  Any pointers would be great.

My advice…don’t use it wireless

You could use power line adaptors to link between your player and router.

Thanks for the replies.

I decided to use a WD USB external HD that we had laying around and I just plug it directly into the WDTV.  Then only issue is that it is only 300gb and I’m sure I’ll have it filled up in no time.  I’m going to have to keep my eyes peeled for a bigger one, under 2tb of course.

By the way, the power line adapter solution was interesting.  I’ll have to look more into it.
