I bought my WDTV live player around christmas and it has been working perfectly until now.
When i start my player my external harddrive that i have connected boot up, but the player cannot find it in the menus.
However, if if connect a second drive, lets say a usb och a second usb harddriver, the player finds the first harddrive, but there isnt any media to be found.
But, if i unplug my WDTV live player from the wall and reconnect, all boot up as normal and the media can be found.
You can try attaching those drives to your computer and deleting the small WD file/folder on the root of them – it may be a problem with building the media library. However, if there is a file or files that is causing this issue it may happen again. In that case, doing a quick format of the drive and putting files back on a few at a time until you find the culprit may be your only option.
At the very least though do a reset of your Live (reset from the settings menu) and see if things don’t straighten out.
I’ve had the same problem and upon removing the .wd_tv directory from the root of the HDD (you may need to turn on show hidden files in Windows) I found the drive re-indexed and showed up ok.
yes, same thing happened with me, just run a check disk on the drive and then remove the wdtv folder, and you’ll be good to go.
I think it happened to me from not ejecting the drive properly…you have to eject it EVERY time you want to remove it, including when its turned off. so you have to power the wdtv up and eject it manually . SInce I’ve been doing that properly I’ve had no more issues with it.
