WDTV LIVE: unable to do anything?

I bought a WDTV Live Hub this morning and have yet to be able to get it to work. I’m running 10.7.4 Snow Leopard OS on an iMac. The first issue I had was an inability to connect to the shared folders, so I updated the firmware on the hub, assuming it may be a fix. However, since that, I am constantly given an error message with an invalid user/password.This message only began showing when I updated the firmware.I have tried and tried and gotten nowhere with it.

The other issue I have is connecting my WD Passport. The drive spins and lights up but the hub says that there is no device connected. I have tried reformatting on my mac on ExFat, Fat32 and MacOS and still have no luck. The drive reads in a windows based computer (except when formatted with MacOS). I’m really getting annoyed with this now. So, any help woiuld be greatly appreciated.

I have tried the reset device option and resetting the login data but am having no luck finding any workarounds or fixes.

Also, just to add on, the hub recognizes an 8GB thumb drive. I have tried multiple cables for the Passprort HD and still no luck

ExFAT and MacOS aren’t supported.

(Never heard of MacOS partiitions anyway.)

HFS+ (without Journalling)

FAT32

NTFS

are all supported.

Dylanosaurus, you’ve just seen the tip of the iceberg on this device. If you still able to return it, I highly recommend it. It will save you much sanity.

I don’t know what is meant by “ExFAT and MacOS aren’t supported.”.  ExFat is a file system and MacOS is a computer operating system.  If you say MacOS isn’t supported, I guess you’d have to say Windows isn’t either, as the SMP can’t run Windows.

To clarify for the OP, HFS+ is the default file system used for disks formatted by MacOS (although it can format and read HFS, ExFAT and FAT32 disks, and read NTFS).  Even with journaling on, HFS+ is compatible for simply playing files (for instance, I have shared a folder on my mac’s hard drive over wifi and played the files on the SMP).  However, if you want to use Media Library on the SMP, you have to disable journaling on the disk.  That can be done in Disk Utility, although I wouldn’t do that on your boot drive.

Dylanosaurus, I suggest you explain exactly what you are trying to do, how things are connected or networked, where you are seeing an error message after doing what, and other details so that someone has enough information to give some advice.

(By the way, mac disks are frequently partitioned)
