WDTV/MyCloud/PS3 has slowly stopped working - please help!

I have hit my technology ceiling, which is probably quite low to everyone else out there. I need help. Please feel free to talk to me like a dummy because I don’t understand 90% of the problems/solutions on here.

I bought a MyCloud a few months ago. Took it home, hooked it up to the PS3. It played everything but MKV files. Okay. So I bought a WDTV. Yay! Everything works for a few months. Then, without having made any updates or changed any settings, The WDTV says that my files are in an unrecognized format and to check the user guide for a list of support formats. It does this for MKV, AVI, MP4, even a JPG movie poster! So I go back to watching on the PS3, and I watch the MKV files on my laptop or phone.

Then the MyCloud stopped streaming to my phone. I can access the folders, but if I try to play content, it displays a cloud with a question mark.

Now my PS3 says there is a DLNA protocol error (2104). I googled it, and the problem seems to be with firewalls? I didn’t understand the analysis of the problem much less the solution. And everything seemed to be for Windows users. I have a 6-year old Macbook.

When the WDTV pooped out on me, I called WD and they said they would escalate the problem and call me back. That was some months ago. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I can do?

Well, whatever is going on with MyCloud’s streaming and PS3’s dlna errors, the WDTV problem is fixed. I didn’t know about the **bleep**ty firmware update. Thanks, internet, for providing easy instructions for rolling back to an earlier version. And big, fat middle finger to WD for treating their customers this way. I’ve been using WD products for the better part of a decade, and I can honestly say I will never buy another WD product again.
