I have a WDTVLIVE unit that I have been using for years, yesterday MS did an update to Windows 10. Now the WD unit does not allow me to view network shares. I do have the latest firmware 1.06.43_V.
When I click on network shares it just does nothing. I have rechecked all the my sharing files to reconfirm they are shared, yet the WD unit fails to see anything.
Please advise, thank you.
Did you reboot your router and WDTV after you rebooted PC after the update of Win 10?
Yes I did, the only way to get the WD unit to access my network shares was to roll back the windows update from 2 days ago. Not sure why the windows 10 update affected the WD unit. I tried everything to get it to see the network shares, including rebooting everything, making sure all files and external drives were still being shares as well as checking permission. Nothing worked.
Maybe you needed to run the WD Discovery utility to re-select the drives to share again.
I think you will find that the tool has not got support for Window 10:
From it’s page:
My Net View Network Evaluation Tool
File Size: 235 MB
Version: 01.01.12
Release Date: 6/14/2012
Description
This download contains the latest version of My Net View. This tool is used to discover and display devices on your network, and to assist with some basic network diagnostics.
Supported Operating Systems
Windows XP with SP3
Windows Vista with SP2
Windows 7 with SP1
Windows 8
FYI, I originally set up my WDTV (Plus) using the discovery tool on a Win 7. Have since added a Win 10 as well, and the Win 10 causes no issues with sharing – except when a drive on it was connected to Win 10 via a USB3 hub – the drive could not be completely seen by the WDTV. To work right, I needed to disconnect drive from hub and plug it directly into Win 10 usb3 port.
Thanks mike27oct. @David_Benson, I downloaded the program & it installed onto my Windows 10 64bit with no problems. Ran the tool and it found my WD TV Media Player, as well as all the other things I have on my network.
Something is wrong on your end.
I wish WD would update their notes to say this program supports Windows 10, as it is misleading the way the notes are now.
WDTV Live and WDTV Hub need SMBv1 enabled to be working. Microsoft is recommeding to disable SMBv1 due to the recent Wannacry ransomware. When SMBv1 is disabled on any Windows/NAS devices WDTV stops accessing Windows shares.
I had to switch to NFS instead of enabling SMBv1
