I am thinking of buying a Western Digital WD Elements 2 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive WDBAAU0020HBK-NESN.  I have one of the last non-intel iMacs.  I run OS-x 10.5.  How hard is it to format this particular hard drive for the iMac?  What software do i need?  Is there a URL to explain the procedure?

Sorry to be so uninformed, but I have been postponing this decision for months just because I haven’t a clue how to approach it.

PowerPC iMac or not, you have to use Utility Disk in your Application/Utilities folder. 

Power on the drive, connected via USB and launch Utility Disk, select your drive and push on Initialize; choose MacOs Extended (journaled) as type.
