I’m very confident our engineers are working on the next firmware update for Twonky, however, I’m also sure that nobody can give us a date for when it will be released.  It all depends on how testing goes.

is there anyway of updating just the twonky part manually? or is that not possible

according to WD support the firmware/Twonky cannot be updated individually nor rolled back. So you seem to be in the same boat as me, owning a pretty white brick with lights that doesnt do what you bought it to do. 'Frustrated Soundbridge (Pinnacle) owner. The Roku versions are supposed to work with iTunes tho

Wanted to get on this dist. list as well. From what I understand, Twonky should be updating so that we can stream /mkv’s directly to Samsung TV’s (LN46B650) via DLNA.

I’m having a lot of trouble doing this - I can stream mkv’s via a usb drive plugged in, and I can stream through my WD TV Live connected on my downstairs TV. but it won’t work through DLNA directly to the Samsung. avi’s work fine, photos work fine.

Please let me know when Twonky is updated or if there’s a FW update available. I have the MBWE II 2TB.

Thanks

Any news when an update will be available?

Pinnacle Soundbridge M400PX does not see the Twonky server installed on MY book World Edition II

Hi. I just want to add to the requests for an update to TonkyMedia and share my experience.

I’ve just bought a WD ShareSpace 4TB which comes with TonkyMedia version 4.4.9. The primary purpose is so I could stream video to my Samsung LE40B650. Most of my videos are in the MKV video container format.

The TV is DLNA certified and so is the WD ShareSpace, which is one of the big factors why I bought it.

Anyway, The TV sees the ShareSpace and the MKV video files. However when I try to play them, I get a message saying ’ Not Supported File Format’. These files do play fine from my portable hard drive via the USB connection, so the issue is definitely with the ShareSpace/TonkyMedia server. I can play AVI video files, however I cannot fast forward, review or pause.

Please please please WD release an upgrade/fix for these issues. Otherwise I’ve just spent a lot a of money on a silver box with flashing lights!

Your post sounds more like an Idea or a Feature Request. The best place for this is in our Ideas Lab. This way someone from WD will be sure to see it. However, I would search first and make sure that there isn’t another idea similar to yours that you could add your post to and vote on.

So how can we update Twonky Media to the latest version? Do we have to wait for WD to release a new version of the ShareSpace firmware?

I’ve found a workaround to my problem… Instead of using the Twonky Media server on the ShareSpace, I’ve installed Wild Media Serveron my PC. It allows me to share my media files from the ShareSpace and I can now play my MKV movie files on my TV.

Are there any news concerning a Firmwareupdate with Twonky 5.1.1? I’m in desperate need of it because my two DLNA Mediaplayers can’t connect to the MyBook-Drive…

Thanks

Glen

I need this too

Since WD is so quit about this, I am afraid I need to find my own solution. I know that this will cost me the warranty, but I do not see much support anyways…

I escalated this thread to our product team, and they are definitely working on an update for both the Twonky and the My Book World/Sharespace drives.  Unfortunately, they cannot commit to a date for when the update will be available.  It all depends on how testing goes.  So, it could be well into next month, if not the end of it.  Sorry, I didn’t have any better news.

Thank you for this. It’s good to know a solution is in the pipeline.

i wonder if they really care?

this topic is old as the hills!

I am seriously thinking about buying a license for Twonky and attempting to install a later version myself.

It’s been over 3 months since this was asked. The product is not working as it should and I’ve basically got an external hard drive, NOT a media server, which is the sole reason I bought this product. The new version of Twonky solves (allegedly) the majority of the issues with streaming to the PS3, please have your engineering team release a Twonky only upgrade, I could care less about anything else. It shouldn’t take this long to figure out how to package up a 3rd party “add on” and test it, a solid engineering team should be able to do the upgrade, unit test, and integration test within a couple of weeks.

Bill_S - Is there any possibility of an update on this.  As you can see, owners are frustrated in being unable to use their My Book World Edition as they expected.  A minority may have the technical abilities to arrive at a work-around but the majority will not .  Please don’t go quiet on us - I’m sure we would all prefer some WD comment here rather than none.  Don’t be deterred from keeping us informed because events don’t go to plan and peoples frustrations bubble over.

We look forward to some news.

I am also experiencing problems reading mp4 video files from a WD MyBookWorld 1 To with a Blue Ray player Samsung BD C5500 connected to my wired home network. File format not recognized by the DVD player through the network but no problem if the file is played from a usb key. However, after trying to read the same files from a pc using Twonky Media Server 5.1.3, same playing issues. So, as problems were reported with Samsung TV with DLNA function, I think the problem is coming from the DVD player or the TV and Samsung is to blame. Any recent feedback?

Best regards
