I am running Widows 8.1 and I cannot install any version of Java newer than release 45.
I have just tried again and cannot access the shares as no matter what setting I try in Java it refuses to let the application run so I cannot access a remote drive.
Even when I run release 45 I can only access using Firefox, Chrome just won’t go past the login page, nothing happens, and Explorer forwards me to the java update page instead of accessing the drive after logging in.
This is crazy and has been going on for months. I don’t think I can carry on using this drive much longer as I can’t risk running such an old version of Java.
Surely some sort of update should have sorted this by now, my drive software is reasonably up to date, but it is the access via WD2Go which is at fault.
I know WD mycloud have tried to contact me and sort this out as they have sent me e-mails to this effect, however my phone does not accept international calls due to the constant barrage of cold calling we get.
Can anyone here talk me through this in an understandable way.I don’t think I should have to deal with these issues with a drive that is supposed to just work, and the average consumer would not be able to sort out complicated settings etc!
When you use Explorer do you click on Allow when it takes you to the Java update page? Mine has a popup at the bottom of the page asking me if I want to allow Java to run, once I click on Allow it starts up Java and then shows my shares.
As for updating Java have you gone to the Java web site and tried updating it from there? http://www.java.com
I can’t find anything in explorer to allow this to work. I log in to wd2go, and briefly see a page where the shares would list. As soon as it tries to load Java, I am diverted to the Oracle web page with no obvious route to do anything else. http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/index.html
Chrome will do nothing beyond the sign in page. i input the correct login and password but nothing happens when i click on SIgn in.
Both the above happen for any version of Java I have tried.
Firefox up to release 7-45 will allow me in once I have agreed to a numbe ro f warning pop-ups relating to out of date certificates etc.
Any release newer than this fails as the login refers to sites not in the exceptios list.

I can find no way around this and am reluctant to stay with an old version of Java any longer
Go into Java > Configure Java (StartIsBack Startmenu) > Security (tab) > On security level drop it down to “Medium” > add https://www.wd2go.com/ to “Exception Site List”
Ok I tried that, even though I have done so before
Java is on medium, latest Java release 67.
Cannot get past the drive login page as it tells me that it is not allowed to run.
Detail as above but here again, clearly although wd2go is in the exceptions list these sites are not so I am not being allowed to run the java code.;

And I have the same problem as above in both Firefox and chrome on release 67. I even tried installing Safarri as apparently that is promoted as the best browser by WD, but that would not even acept I had java installed, just kept going around in cicles asking me to install java even though it is installed.
I can’t copy the error message, but it says that the wd2go java refers to another domain not in the exceptions list and 35 others as well so it won’t allow it to run.
I am experiencing t identical nonsense . Fine to use in house , but the remote use is rubbish. I am already bad mouthing this device to people asking me about it, in this respect.
I too am very frustrated with the Java issues. This platform needs to be completely overhauled or moved off of Java or whatever it takes. WD has always been a great company. I am a former CISO, if my staff had allowed a problem to go on this long, I would seriously be questioning them. I don’t want a work around and I don’t want to play every time a Java security update comes out. Stay on top of your product and keep it working WITH the latest updates. Don’t wait for a bunch of people to complain. 31,400 hits on Google for WD2GO java issues. I cannot use my WD My Cloud with IE and I am currently carrying another laptop with me to maintain my connectivity. I am going to build a VM just for access to my WD My Cloud. I am actively looking for a replacement device. My only laptop that can still access this is on Firefox ver. 22.0 and my Java version is a woefully insecure version 7 update 40 (build 1.7.0_40-b43). I would like an unambiguous answer to how this is going to be fixed and why it has been an issue for so long. I don’t have this problem with Box or OneDrive or Dropbox, but I want my files in my device not theirs. Why haven’t you permanently fixed this and solved this massive pain in your customers neck!!!
Is there a simple permanent fix that won’t break again as soon as I update my browser or Java or should I throw this otherwise excellent device in the trash?
FRUSTRATED!!!,
Bryan
Give me a fat client that I can point to my own firewall and bypass your web site. I will happily open the ports in my home firewall and do it that way.
I, too, am having issues with Java because on a Surface RT, you’re not even allowed to download ANYthing that isn’t an app from Windows store.

Yes, this still works (unless maybe if you told it ‘No’ forever so the popup wouldn’t return each time), but even that gets tidious after a while – especially having to do it twice every time you try to log on to your shares. I get an ‘L’-shaped window in grey that has two places Java wants you to log on to and after I do that, if I try it again, I only get one popup asking if I still want to run the Java it had for me and I say ‘Yes’ but, like I said, gets to be a pain, yeah?
The fact that the stupid Surface RT (boy was THAT ever a bad purchase!) doesn’t allow ANYthing downloaded AND they do NOT yet offer My Cloud in the Windows store, leaves me using a Network connection on the Surface RT (when the PC is on and not sleeping) that can get to the shares, but I wouldn’t call this convenient at all. The whole point behind ANY cloud service is access, access, access and Microsoft isn’t user friendly at the moment and when it might be is up in the air somewhere (anywhere BUT in the “clouds” )!!
So Western Digital contacted me based on my post and the assistance from a moderator. Kudos to Western Digital on thier customer service. [Deleted] contacted me from WD and was very responsive and helpful. I work in IT and I am well aware of the burden on companies to keep up with IE, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Java, etc… etc… to keep their devices working. WD has a fat client that I didn’t know about called WD My Cloud Desktop for Windows. When I downloaded this client and loaded it on my laptops that I travel with it solved my browser/Java problems by eliminating them. Thanks to WD for making my device useful again. I also gave them the following suggestions for consideration.
Once you load the fat client and login let it create a network drive in explorer as this would be my preffered method to access my device.
Put a replication capability in the My Cloud series of devices so that I can replicate my WD Mycloud to another WD MyCloud at a family members house or another location to allow for backup in the event of fire or natural disaster.
Put a capability in the MyCloud to allow direct access through ports on the firewall at the location of the device to allow advanced users to control their own access and connectivity independently if desired for security or privacy.
