Where's the software? Please help :'(

Hi, I have purchased WD Passport USB 3.0 1 TB (WDBBEP0010BBL-NESN)

When I first connected my hard drive to my macbook, it asked if i wanted to use this as a back-up, and I selected no.

Then nothing else showed up. I tried to find the smartware software, which I suppose should come with this drive, but I couldn’t find any.

I own another WD hard drive that when connected will show the software CD icon on desktop.

I read this  http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-Software/SmartWare-doesn-t-recognize-MyPassport/td-p/347083

and I understand that the software downloaded from WD website wouldn’t work. But where is my software that comes on the drive ???

bump

I need help

Anyone ? Please.

Hi jubei104,

thanks for the link. I have tried installing “WD Macintosh + TURBO Drivers” but when I run the WD SmartWare, my Passport drive doesn’t show up. The drive is detected on the desktop, but it isn’t in the software. I’m so lost now. I thought the software comes with my drive already, that’s why I ordered one. I need to use the security password function of the Smartware.

Hello, your hard drive is not compatible with Smartware on Macs; You can use time machine instead.

Ohhh so that’s how it is … thank you for the reply.

Should I have known that before, I wouldn’t have bought this product.

Time Machine works in almost the same way as smartware, so you are practically not loosing anything. There is an article on the knowledge base that explains some of the differences. Check the link below.

I used time machine once… long time ago and if I’m not mistaken, everything on my mac will be saved in the time machine drive. But I want to store only selected items, not sure if time machine would allow me.
Anyhow, I’ll sure read the article you’ve provided, thank you : )
