Finally received my Hub yesterday and while I found this topic in the Category forum, the messages were old and seemingly unanswered.
While using the composite ports, the widescreen and normal settings in the audio/video options do not seem to make any difference in how the picture looks. The screen looks fine and appropriate on a widescreen, but smooshed on my 4:3 CRT. Switching between widescreen and normal doesn’t seem to do anything on either TV. The firmware has been updated as of yesterday.
Has anyone encountered this so far with the Hub? Is it really a WDTV product line bug as the other messages seem to suggest?
Can I assume that this only applies to the menu’s. If so this question was answered for the Live and probably applies to the hub as well. Do your video’s play at the correct ratio?
The WD TV Live Media Player User Interface appears squished horizontally on some TV’s running Standard 4:3 aspect ratio.
Cause:
This issue occurs because the WD TV’s User Interface is designed for widescreen TV’s.
Solution:
The WD TV’s widescreen/standard option changes the aspect ratio during media playback, but does not change the aspect ratio of the UI. While there is no way to adjust this, your videos will play in your specified ratio
