I have read many posts here and they have been very helpful. However, as a new user of WD TV Live I am still wondering what format to save my movies in. I have always saved them in the VOB format using AnyDVD. I would like to continue this practice but am unsure if WD will enable menu’s in both the VOB and ISO formats.
With all of the many complaints about the lack of support of menu’s it seems likely that support is on its way (eventually!). However, will menu’s be supported in ALL formats?
Sorry I can not agree. Have the latest firmware upgrade and the device has no menus or chapters of the DVD ISO files or VOB, simply reproduce. I reported the problem to WD.

You have to be using the beta firmware to get menu’s and chapters on the WDTV Live. WDTV live plus users already have the firmware to do this. And yes it works on both correctly ripped vobs and iso’s
Thank you all for your answers. As for using the “latest” firmware let me say that I am NOT using the recent beta release. I am however using the official 1.02.21 firmware. The software that I use to rip my dvd’s is AnyDVD. I have a lifetime subscription so its always up-to-date.
Most of my dvd rips are in the VOB format but I hestiate to continue ripping to this format because quite a few of the posts complaining about the lack of support for menu’s are from users who rip to the ISO format.
I just ripped The Italian Job to the ISO format and everyone in the movie spoke Italian! There was no menu from which I could choose the English language. When I play the same ISO rip on my computer using Cyberlink DVD 10 menu’s are supported and I can choose English or Italian dubbing.

You are also confusing menu’s with selecting audio channels. When playing the iso try pressing the option button and checking via the audio selection icon to see if you can switch to the english soundtrack. You can do to same with sub titles.
Thank you for your advice! I played The Italian Job, in ISO format, again, and when the film began I pushed the Option button. A list of option icons appeared in the upper portion of the screen. The first of these was for choosing Audio. Later I will find out what options the other icons represent. But for now I am VERY pleased. I have a few other movies with which I have had the same problem.
Since I am obviously confusing menu’s with other options, please correct me by telling me, specifically, what is included in Menu’s?
In DVD Mode (where menus are working) the only options are “MENU” which takes you to the DVD’s menu pages, “Subtitle,” where you can select which subtitle set you want, and “Audio” which lets you pick the track you want.
Ok. Thanks for th clarification. I do hope that WD enables Menu’s in both the VOB and ISO format and that this is done in the upcoming official firmware release.
