Wireless connection not possible anymore?!

Hi All,

I have my MyBookLive 2tb only for few days and I already run into several problems, so I’m hoping and I can pick your brain a bit and try to fix it

I have a home network set-up with a wireless router (Telsay CPVA642) to which I connected the MBL on the day it arrived. I was able to connect to it on both computers wirelessly by running the CD that came with it, the drive was mapped and I was able to transfer data from computers (one laptop and one desktop) to MBL.

But this morning I’m not able to connect to the MBL via wireless on any these computers! Initialy  i thought that it just died (maybe from overheating) but then I plugged in the laptop to the router and I was able to use it again. BTW I’m able to connect via iPhone using WD 2go app.

So the question is why the wireless connection is not possible any more if everything was OK just an evening before?!

Both computers are running on Win Vista and I upgraded the firmware on MBL this morning but it didn’t help. Also there is a slight problem with the router as it came from my ISP and there is no (known to me) way to get an access to it’s settings! Please advise if you have any ideas to get that resolved.

Thank you in advance!!!

Since you have other ways to access the My Book Live the issue may be related to your router.  You may try resetting or power cycling the router.

Thank you for the reply.

Unfortunately the power cycle didn’t work and I can’t reset the router as I said it was shipped with all configuration saved on it and without any possibility of checking it. So if i reset it I’m pretty sure that I will lose my internet access.

Any sugestions why it just stopped working maybe?

Hi,

I eventually ended up replacing the router and setting up a new network. Now my biggest problem is the slow transfer over the network…ah well.

Don’t believe that the problem was the router even if some win “support” at the windows forum claim so.  Some people have had their nas disappear at times when turning on their laptops.

I was never able to map an usb hard disk plugged into the router as the “path to the device wasn’t found” on the same network; BUT somehow by magic win7 was able to find the media server connected to the router (same hard drive) & I was able to create a shortcut to the media server even if windows could not find the path to the same drive!!???  I was able to access the files on the media server without any problems because the windows media center can get to them easily!!  This is with a laptop with a wireless connection to the router.

Regarding the problem of accessing the MBL from the laptop wirelessly, I encountered something similar this morning.  My AVR was not able to find/see twonky; the led remained blue, asleep.  Then I thought I needed to “wake” the MBL from the desktop & so booted up & accessed MBL using the browser; the led went green.  Went back to the AVR to play some music but twonky (MBL) wasn’t available.

The only thing I could think of that early was to ssh to reboot MBL; hindsight says that I could’ve just either “started” twonky or do a rescan of the db.  I do remember that the router’s DLNA need to do a rescan after I added some more files to the drive connected to the router’s usb port.

I don’t know if it’s the OS on MBL or Twonky that is the problem; read part of a log on MBL that says that there is a time to wake-up before going back to sleep.  This was probably the reason why the led was green this morning & went back to blue later on; the led was blue when I went to bed.
