Hi, i just got the My Passport Essential 500gb usb2.0/3.0 and it dos not work. As soon as i plug in the HD it shows me the win7 “installing device driver software” thingy and it passes the “USB Mass Storage Device” but not “SYMWAVE Generic USB Device” and the “SYMWAVE SES USB Device” There is no light on the HD it dos spin ( can feel it ) the WD SmartWare doesn’t sees it at Device manager i got 2 new icons “SYMWAVE SES USB Device” under “Other Devices” and “Disk Drive” Under “Disk Driver’s” witch i cannot uninstall or anything the Device manager keeps freezing when i try too… any body can help me with this? and dos it require all those programs and things at any pc i wanna connect the HD too?
You only need to install the SES driver on each computer you want to be able to use the drive with.
Well, you don’t “need” to, but the popup will pop up every time you plug it in to a PC that doesn’t have the driver installed… and without the driver installed you won’t be able to use any of the extra features that you paid extra for.
If the install from the VCD didn’t work, you can always try to get Windows Update to find and download the missing drivers for you, if running the setup again fails a second (or third) time.
Thanks for the help ^^ anyway in a strange way i connected the HD to my other PC and it didant work buy diffrent “Driver Scan” ( same OS ) then i connected to my main PC and walla… all works … same at college today… took me 2times to disconnect and reconnect to set it working… strange thing but works
