Yay! :D

I have been pushing for an Android “Mionet App” for a long time and WD 2Go seems to be exactly what I wanted and I’m happy about this!!! Unfortunately, my Android phone is on my GF’s hands and I’ll need to pick it up so I can try the app, on the meanwhile I’ll update the firmware of my MBL and get ready.

I’m exited about this, I’ll post again after I get more intimate with the app. As for usage info, this will be what I’ll use:

-Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro on stock 2.1 Éclair

-Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro on Custom FroYo 2.2 (Overclocked CyanogenMod)

-Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro on stock Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) when the phone comes out next week.

WDTony & Laura_F, I have been reading that the app was not “designed” for video streaming, but what combination of codecs and extensions (i.e.: Xvid + AVI) were tested to work on your labs? That would at least give me an idea of how much I can play with the app!

Thanks for the app! Cheers!

I was able to stream few AVI, about 1 hour long, I only notice few stuttering.

The FAQs list the file types we are supporting (mostly native). Obviously Android can support more if you use external app like rockplayer (I think that is the name).

This is from the Android market description:

WD 2go app can display the following files associated with the built-in apps on your Android device:

  • Music (.mp3)
  • Movies (.mp4)
  • Images (.bmp, .jpg, .png, .gif)

However, some files may require you to download specific third-party apps from the Android Market such as RockPlayer Lite to stream following music and media files

  • Music (.aiff, .m4a, .wav, .wma)
  • Movies (.mov, .m4v, .avi, .asf, .wmv, .3gp)

Note: Some files may not display due to Android platform or device limitations, network latency, and resolution or bit rate of video and audio files. If the ThinkFree Office Mobile Viewer app isn’t already installed on your device, download it from the Android Market to view the following document types:

  • .doc
  • .docx
  • .xls
  • .pdf
  • .ppt

Thank you very much for the info!

I’m having difficulties with m4v’s.  I have wd2go installed, I have access via my iPad, I can see the m4v file, I can select it, and wd2go program seems like it wants to stream it, but it will not.  I press the play, it remains in play for about 2 seconds (as indicated by the play icon going to pause icon) and then just quits.  ???   Can someone maybe explain whats going on and what I can do to resolve this poblem (if it’s even possible)?

I gotta say that I’m a little dissapointed since I went through the trouble of updating the firmware (never able to go back to the original firmware which supports mionet).  Just a little frustrating since I haven’t been able to use my WDLive drive for what I purchased it for.

EDIT:  By the way, this streaming that I was attempting was simply on my Home LAN … I was right next to the Router.

You quoted Tony’s post so I thought you had taken notice of that conditional list for Android while you have an iPad.> Tony, I have tried the files you suggested over LAN and I can play them with no flaws so far! I’ll start playing with codecs and see if I can come with a list

I appreciate you taking the time to post a reply about this, but I still don’t have a complete answer to the question.  I know of no applications for the iPad that would allow me to do this, do you?  Thanks again for your time.
