You never mentioned this device will OVERHEAT and SHUTTING DOWN

First time experiencing,

WD Studio 2TB, in MAC it shows information that the device is OVERHEAT

Oh, come on,

I don’t which device that is overheating, you know what,

I plugged it in 4 WD hard drive,

WD Studio 2, 2TB,

WD Studio 2TB,

WD My Book 1,5TB

and WD Passport 320GB

I don’t which device is overheating,

I tried to look into WD My Book 1,5TB and shut it down

Count down 5 minutes still running and suddenly BZZZ …

WD Studio 2TB suddenly stops working,

I try to plug and unplug the power, did not work,

I try to change from Firewire port A to B, still not working,

I try to use USB ports, it’s the same

After several minutes, it surprisingly starting

Well,

WD never mentioned on the manuals that this device could go OVERHEATING and SHUTTING DOWN

WD never mentioned also that after shutting down, this device will start working normally again

Come on, WD,

you already make me almost got a heart attack when I lost my data on the WD Sharespace and experiencing data lost,

now you tried to make moe worried about something that I can not find what the **bleep** is going on ?

I tried to google and no results,

it seems nobody ever experiencing this device overheating and shutting down

Well, for you to know also,

my working space is air conditioned, now I always put extra fan in front of my WD device everytime I’m using it,

you know the fan noise but it’s probably better than having a risk of loosing your data

Please inform users about this overheating issue,

shutting down symptoms and ideal working environments for this device

It would be better if you put some temperature sensor and warning on the WD software

so people could monitor their WD drive easily and know what happen to the drive

If your drive is Overheating it’s not normal. Since you already googled and find out is not common problem, just replace the harddrive since still under Warranty. You can also get it back to the store if still within the time frame to return.

Overheating is not a common problem. Touching the drive should identify the hot one. I don’t know what you are using the drive for. Their basic use is for backup not for continuous use like an internal HD with a fan.
