1TB Blue Caviar Drive not recognized by computer - HELP!

Hey there,

I have this drive:

Western Digital Caviar Blue (WD10EALX) 1TB SATA3 6GB/s 7200RPM 32M Cache (OEM)

Out of nowhere my computer stopped recognizing it.

When I restart the computer the drive starts to spin but the arm doesn’t sound like it’s trying to move or read anything. After a while the drive stops spinning. It’s not recognized by the PC or in the BIOS. It makes no strange noises or anything at all.

I had someone local look at it and he said it was likely something in the PCB. I really don’t want to have to go the clean room to get this thing sorted. Any DIY suggestions?

seems that the arm is stuck or the motor is dead o.O

if the arm doesnt move i dont see another way of recovering your data than recovery services but thats wait for people like fzabkar  that can give you another opinion

he is saying that it starts to spin, so 100% heads are not stuck, and the motor is fine. sometimes recalibration sounds on drives with failed heads are quite, I would really put an ear to the drive and power it on. if it ticks, then it will most likely need a head replacement. Not really a DIY type of thing
