I have 5 computers connected to the MycloudEX2Ultra
They all worked fine for months until today.
2 of the laptops using WIFI suddenly can’t see the drive.
The drive is set up so there is a public share folder where the computers (5 users)
can all share data. A shortcut on each desktop takes them to that folder.
Now, the two laptops that use wifi can’t find the drive while the other hard wired units can.
I brought my laptop in (admin) and it connected via wifi no problem.
These two laptops run Win10, mine runs Win7 as do the other computers.
I don’t understand why I can’t even map the drive, it just hangs.
Any suggestions? I need to solve this FAST!
For the fastest resolution to your issue, I’d recommend contacting WD Support (Link below). This is a user-based community, and as-such there are no guarantees someone is going to reply in a timely manner.
Regarding your issue (Assuming you’ve done all the bear-bones basics like rebooting the computers etc.), that sounds like there might be something up with the router. Have you tried doing a power-cycle and/or reset of that device?
I have e-mailed support as well.
I did a hard reset on the modem, router and EX2.
The 4 computers that run Windows 7 have zero issues.
The 2 computers that run Windows 10 get a message that the drive is unavailable.
When letting it troubleshoot I get "Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the
device or resource (MYCLOUDULTRA) is not responding.
They have worked without issue since Feb 15th and both went out over the weekend or on Monday when they weren’t in use.
There have been no changes to the EX2. I have done everything I can think of to both of those Win10 units.
It makes no sense. I can see the EX2 in the Network, it is also listed in Devices and Printers. It is just “unavailable”.
I have made sure it is Credentialed, etc. No love.
I’m supposed to update 2 desktops in the next week or two and they will have Windows 10 on them, but not if this is going to happen.
Latest firmware on the EX2?
Yes, and all computers have the latest Windows Updates as well.
Have you checked to see if your “latest Windows updates” occurred before or after your troubles began? You could also “system restore” one of the Win 10 PCs and see if it gets fixed? You can always undo the restore if it did not help.
It didn’t appear that any updates were done before the trouble began, I did look.
I tried system restore on one laptop but it wouldn’t change anything. I plan on trying with the other today.
I’ll also did deeper into any firewall or security that may be affecting these two on Win10 that aren’t affecting
the Win7 units. They all have the same software on them. It’s the oddest thing. I’ve tried flushing releasing renewing
etc etc etc. I may not be the best IT guy but I’m not the dumbest though I feel like it now.
Apparently updates were done June 12. It knocked a Windows user offline.
I’m working with windows support to try and nail it down as it does seem to be a Windows 10 issue but I’m surprised more folks aren’t experiencing my pain.
It isn’t a firewall issue and I ran the update troubleshooter.
I found update issues and fixed them and had access until I rebooted, then poof.
After turning off the Windows firewall I had access, for about 5 minutes. I didn’t need to reboot for it to get cut off again, just sitting idle for 5 minutes did it.
Tried mapping the drive using WD Quick view, it gets stuck “Attempting to connect”
Agree, the issue does appear to be Win 10 related.
Last week wife had issue with her Win 10 laptop; not coming our of sleep mode properly… After spending over an hour with MS support person who had her changing all sorts of things they gave up. Told wife she should have just done a restore to try to fix things AND now fix any issue created during the “help” session. She did, and all was well again
Do not allow an amateur MS help person to give you the run around, politely ask to be connected to an advanced tier of support, asap!
I tried doing a system restore on one laptop to one of the 3 listed, none were able to complete successfully. I will be trying on the other laptop shortly but the one I am working on now is the accounting laptop that needs remote access so it is most important.
I did a complete reset of the network and got access to the NAS, again until I rebooted.
I have no hair left.
What about third-party software? Anything like Anti-Virus or Firewall software installed?
Anti virus is Bitdefender2017 and it shows no alerts so it didn’t remove anything that I am aware of and it has no firewall installed. The Windows Firewall was turned off to test and it did allow me to access until a reboot. Other settings I have done like the dns flush etc have allowed access until a reboot even with the Windows firewall turned back on.
Windows sees it, there is just no link to it on these two computers.
Oh, to further confuse everyone if I open WD Smartware it not only connects but will retrieve a file. I just can’t open the shortcut link to the public folder or access the drive through the Network Places.
Again, it all points to the Win 10 computers. Weird that you could not do a restore on the laptop. Something is real wrong with Win 10 on it. Did you try going back one more layer for the restore if the one you selected didn’t work?
I’m about to try a restore on the other laptop now. The worker just left.
Neither computer wants to do a system restore, even using the advanced recovery options.
"System Restore failed while restoring the directory from the restore point.

End of a long day here. I may try renaming the folder tomorrow and try again. Tomorrow is the last day I will have to get this right as I will be away for 10 days. Staff won’t be happy if I don’t get this fixed.
I appreciate all the suggestions. Windows support is very little help.
Here’s a thread that might help:
Thanks for that link. Renaming the folder will sometimes get you past that hiccup.
First I will edit the registry to stop auto updates. I have a feeling something in the updates did it.
These two laptops are running the Home version so I can’t stop auto updates making it useless to try restoring to an earlier restore date as it will immediately update again.
I updated 1 laptop from Windows ver. 1607 to 1703 and nothing changed, same problem.
I ran tracert and it traced in 2ms and identified it as MYCLOUDEX2ULTRA.
Tracing route to 192.168.0.10 over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 <1 ms <1ms 2 ms MYCLOUDEX2ULTRA [192.168.0.10]
I realize at this point for sure it isn’t the Mycloud with the problem but if anyone has seen this before or has a suggestion the Windows people are of little help so far.
