Accessing files remotely - can view folders and files but content will not load

Hello everyone, I hope someone can help. I’ve had a My Cloud Mirror (Gen 2) for a couple of months now. It’s working beautifully at home on my network, either through my MacBook or the WD app on my iPhone, with no problems that couldn’t be sorted quickly by looking through these forums.

However it is another story when I am on another network, such as at work or at the home of a relative: I can sign into My Cloud on my MacBook or iPhone and view all the folders I’ve created, and the files within those folders. Icons of movie files even appear as their preview images. But when I click on any file to access it, it won’t load. It will look like it’s starting to, saying ‘getting started’ and displaying the loading ‘wheel’, but will just remain stuck like that forever with nothing ever loading. This the case with any file, whether movie, music, pdf etc.

I’ve tried on several networks with no success. Is there a configuration setting I’ve missed when initially setting up My Cloud at home, perhaps?
Thanks for any help anyone might be able to offer.

When accessing files remotely, the upload speed of your data plan is crucial. Do you have an upload data cap?

Trancer, thank you - that is a point that has never occurred to me. Yes, I think there is probably a cap on data upload speed. I’m away right now but will check the agreement with my provider when home in a few days.

Most speed measuring sites and apps will measure both upload and download speed. That may be a better indication than what your ISP may have promised you, especially if the phrase “up to…” is involved in their blurb.

Also make measurements at different times of the day and week, as network load affects uploads just as much as downloads.
