Accessing My Cloud remotely

I am having issues accessing content via the WWW. The upload speed where the WD My Cloud is located is about 3.5Mbs, but when I access files remotely, using a Win 8.1 Notebook, I am unable to stream at anything near that speed. When I access it using my Android device things are better, but still as quick as I feel they should be.

Any ideas please?

have you actually ran a speed test like speedtest.net to check your speed? at several different times?

the remote drive mapping uses webdav which seems to have poor performance and reliability to me.

for most remote access I use the WD Mycloud desktop app which has better performance and reliability. I don’t normaly use it at home

Hello,

I saw this discussion. I wonder if you could tell me how to make content availalbe via WWW. I just need to make one one .html file available.

I have tried to read the manual but I just cannot find any instructions regading this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

Mikke

I assume the 1st post was talking about using wd2go.com to access the my cloud

to serve a web page involves a number of steps and concideration that I can’t detail but basics are

the IP address from your ISP will change periodically unless you pay for a static. there are some workarounds

you need to forward some port on the router to the mycloud port 80, also concider the security issues of placing it on the web

you need to modify apache settings to alow remote access and server the new 1 page website

Not sure what you are trying to do but you can send a link to a file which may be a better choice

Thanks for all you help and suggestions.

About the fixed IP, my IP changes when I have to reboot the router ETC. But doesn’t the My Cloud check in with WD and register its new IP address every time it cxhanges? I’ve moved it from one location to another and it automaticaly shows up on the WWW, much like a remote computer does on Log Me In, Team Viewer, Google Remote Desktop ETC. I’ve accessed it from a few different locations and my Android phone is always quicker than my PC, so it may be a Windows 8.1 config thing.

I am going to try a different PC and do some bench marks for downloading a file and streaming a file.

I’ll be back.

Thanks again.
