Accessing MyCloud post April 15th

Hi. I own a MyCloud device (Model: WDBCTLxxxxxxx-00) which apparently is not supported by the new OS or the new firmware. Will I be able to access the data in there post April 15th 2022, via the web access portal (www.mycloud.com), and via the iOS app? If not, how else can I access the data, since there’s no provision to connect to it via any hard wire (USB, etc.)?

See the follow link for more information.

Q: Will my device stop working if I can’t upgrade to My Cloud OS 5? Will I lose access to my data?
A: Once the services have been shut down, you will still be able to access the device on a local network. However, access through the My Cloud OS 3 mobile app or web app will not be possible. Email notifications also won’t be delivered. Devices that have auto-update enabled will receive a final firmware update to disable remote access and outbound traffic to cloud services. Then, support will end and you’ll have to use the local network to access the device.

One will still be able to access the My Cloud on their local network using Mac Finder or Windows File Explorer just as one does today. Mobile devices can use file manager apps to access the local network My Cloud.

After the shutdown in April, remote access using MyCloud.com web portal will be ended. And the My Cloud mobile apps for iOS and Android will apparently no longer work.

Hi,

Can someone help me with how to access the My Cloud on local network using Mac Finder or Windows File Explorer?
Also, what file manager app to use on iOS to access the local network My Cloud?
Lastly, is there a way to access My Cloud device data using hard wire?

Regards,

If you haven’t done so already, read the User Manual for your My Cloud device/model. It explains how to use that device on the local network.

And see this WD Knowledge Base Article.

For example one can “map” a My Cloud Share to make accessing it easier.

When you connect the My Cloud to the local network router (or network switch) using an Ethernet wire then it IS connected using a “hard wire”. You cannot connect a computer to the My Cloud’s USB port. The My Cloud USB port is for expanding the storage by connecting a USB hard drive to that port.

Use the forum search feature, magnifying glass icon top right, to search for past discussions on what file manager apps for iOS and Android others have used with with the My Cloud. Also search the Apple App store for file manager apps that support access to NAS devices like the My Cloud to find the one that works best for you. And use your favorite internet search engine to search for discussions on Apple iOS file manager apps. There is no one “best” mobile app, everyone has their own opinions on which app works best for their needs.
