I have 5 shares set up on my cloud home network .
All are set to Media Serving and Public Access.
Only 4 are visible form the web.
The one that is not visible is TimeMachineBackup
Why can’t I access it from the web?

Because WD decided that the TimeMachine and Smartware shares were somehow a security risk, and have blocked access to them.
See other threads on the subject.
How can I retrieve my data remotely then?? This defeats the whole purpose of having a way to remote in …if you can’t access the most recent back up stuff.
Am I supposed to copy the most recent back up from the TimeMachine to another folder EVERY SINGLE DAY? That would defeat the back up. This doesn’t make sense.
Have you considered using WD Sync?
WD Sync will monitor folders (that you can designate) on a computer and then sync that data to a folder on the My Cloud. You can then use the WD My Cloud Desktop, WD mobile apps, MyCloud.com web portal to access that data. Further the WD Sync program will sync remotely as well.
You may be able to use FTP to access the Smartware and Time Machine folders remotely (I haven’t tried). But FTP is not secure.
There is probably a way to change the remote access block on the Smartware and Time Machine folders through SSH.
Thanks for that technical info though manipulating folders through SSH is beyond my means.
I will investigate WD Sync.
Also, I know this may be unrelated but when I bring up files.mycloud.com on my phone it is super small print. The letters are literally the size of a pin head!!
I thought this was bigger before but I can’t even read it. Its like it is no longer pulling the mobile version of the site.
My gosh can WD Remote My Cloud be any more confusing and difficult?
No, it doesn’t make sense. If you want to know why WD did it, you’d better ask them…
I don’t use a Mac, so i don’t use time machine, but I don’t use WD’s SmartWare backup either. I use a backup tool that puts data where I tell it, which is somewhere visible remtely.
That is an issue with your phone, try zooming in within the web browser if possible. Or turn the phone so its in landscape mode rather than portrait mode.
It really isn’t all that confusing or difficult. Its just you seek to use it in a way that WD has decided cannot be used (accessing Smartware/Time Machine folders remotely).
You could change the backup location within the Smartware program so it doesn’t save into the Smartware folder on the my Cloud. See the Smartware User Manual (http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/wdsmartware/um.asp) for more information. I don’t use a Mac but I assume one can change the backup location within Time Machine.
I can in some respects understand why WD decided to block remote access to the Smartware / Time Machine folders. There are valid reasons for doing so, among them preventing someone from accessing and changing/deleting the backed up files. There should be an option within the WD My Cloud app and the MyCloud.com web portal to allow one to enable or disable access to those two folders rather than a blanket ban on their access.
It should be noted that one can access both the Smartware and Time Machine folders using the My Cloud Desktop program.
