On the latest upgrade of WD My Cloud app on android, it said new version support auto backup of photos on the phone. Cant find how to do that though.
Hello,
Check the settings on the app, you will see the option for Camera backup and it will do that automatically while using wifi connection.
If you set the app to work with the data plan it will upload the photos instantly.
Is this also a feature of the iOS version, too?
This feature does not appear to be automatic. It only appears do upload the files if the mycloud app is open. Can someone please confirm? I was hoping this was a true backup in which I would take a picture and it would immediately back up to my cloud in the background. Thanks.
It is logical that the MyCloud App will only be able to upload images when the MyCloud App is open, don’t you think?
I mean if your car isn’t running, are you able to drive it to the shops?
If you want this to happen automatically all the time, just open the App and leave it open in the background. Of course, I take no responsibility for the extra battery usage you will suffer when you do this.
PS: I’m not an Android user, so I can’t test this, and don’t know for sure if it will work. But it is logical.
The Microsoft OneDrive app backs up the photos on my phone / tablet without being ‘open’.
You open the app, tell it to back up your photos and when close it, If I take any pictures it automatically backs them up to my account when I am contacted to wifi, no further intervention from me.
Quite correct.
The Microsoft OneDrive, Apple iCloud, and Google Drive Apps all keep running in the background even when you close them, if settings are configured to do that. But the WD MyCloud App isn’t in the same league as those Apps, in terms to OS integration.
Maybe WD has aspirations to do the same thing with MyCloud, and the new Android version may be supposed to. But the iOS version just closes when it is closed, and doesn’t leave any part of it running to upload files.
It does work with the android version, exactly the same as the OneDrive backup.
Turn it on in the settings and every time you take a photo its backed up to your NAS.
You can see the cloud icon at the top left when the app starts uploading.
There is also a notification regarding the uploads.
Well there you go. Maurice_Macewen must be doing something wrong then.
Although I see you are using a MyBookLive. Do you know if it works with a MyPassport Wireless?
If you’re using the Samsung kies, you can easily backup your photos or other data with samsung kies. Or other way you can try android manage tool, it can backup and restore Android phone to computer.
Tried with Mypassport wireless and even though you can see the mpw in the app and connect to it generally, its not selectable to automatically back up photos.
So the Mycloud app does work in the background for WD ‘real’ NAS but it seems it cannot be used to back up photos automatically to the mpw.
The app tool for me to back up my phone photos is Android Manager. It can help backup data to PC, that I can restore them if my phone is broken or photos are deleted accidently. Backup photo files to computer
Well, there’re many methods to backup your photos, but i think it safer to backup them to computer. There’re many this kind of apps, try Coolmuster Android Backup Assistant, it would transfer everything from your phone to computer with simple operations.
A file manager for android app could transfer everything from your phone to computer, you need to connect your phone to computer and start the app, then the app would detect your phone data automatically, you can select and check those photos you want to backup.
the only way to backup folders automatically is to install bittorrent-sync for linux
