I am presently trying to back up my MYCloud 2Tb device to a drop box account. I have the dropbox client loaded on a laptop and a drive mapped to the cloud device however the disk space on the [Windows] laptop is very limited (smaller than the cloud storage) and is reliant upon the laptop being on constantly to back up files. I’ve tried a number of options and wondered if the Smartware Pro upgrade was the way to go - assuming that the device will back up directly to Dropbox without requiring a client PC ?
It appears that Smartware Pro still requires the use of a computer to copy/backup files to the Dropbox account. What your looking for is a module (or app) on the WD My Cloud itself to backup to Dropbox independent of the computer. The lower end WD My Cloud units do not officially offer that kind of option. More expensive units like the My Cloud Mirror, WD My Cloud EX 2, and WD My Cloud EX4 do have official third party apps including the ability to upload direct to Dropbox. It may be possible to use SSH to upload a module/app to accomplish what you seek with the WD My Cloud 2TB device but doing so is not officially supported.
If you search this forum you’ll see that there are several other threads asking for Dropbox integration with the lower end WD My Cloud units.
