Safepoint directly to Dropbox

Good evening. Someone can inform me if it is possible make a safepoint directly to Dropbox or other cloud service.

Model: My Cloud Personal Cloud Storage

Best Regards.

With Smartware Pro you can backup to Dropbox. See the Smartware User Manual for more information about backing up to Dropbox. Or see this WD Support document: How to create a backup to a Dropbox account using WD SmartWare Pro

I believe you get one free upgrade to Smartware Pro with your WD My CLoud. See the following WD Support document for more information on how to upgrade to Smartware Pro: How to upgrade WD SmartWare to WD SmartWare Pro

Already activated the SmartWare Pro. What I want is to do a full backup of my cloud. When I enter the WD My Cloud software( http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10428/~/how-to-create-a-safepoint-backup-of-a-wd-my-cloud-drive-on-another-device)) me appears only two choices, or do I backup to USB or network.

Thank you

A full backup of a MyCloud to Dropbox?

Let’s run the numbers…

Assume you have 1TB (8Tb) of data and a 1Mbps broadband uplink rate; you can easily scale these figures. How long will this backup take?

Time = 8e12/1e6 = 8e6 seconds

= 8e6/(24*60*60) days

= 92.6 days

That’s neglecting any protocol overhead, and any data limits on you broadband contract.

WIth the lower end WD My Cloud devices you cannot directly backup from the WD My Cloud device, via SafePoint, to Dropbox. The more expensive models, like the My CLoud EX2, that support add-on apps can apparently backup to Dropbox.

The workaround for the lower end models without Dropbox support is to map the WD My Cloud to your computer then use Smartware Pro, and switching to file/folder method of backup where you can specify the files/folders to backup, you should (if I remember right) be able to select the mapped drive containing the WD My Cloud file/folder contents and have that content uploaded to the Dropbox account.

But like the previous poster indicated you are limited by your broadband upload speed. To backup even a 1TB WD My Cloud drive, if fully filled with data, could take a week or much more running flat out 24/7 on a fast broadband upload connection.
