I currently have an Iomega Screen Play Plus 1TB, but besides almost running our of space, I have to convert MKV to AVO to be able to watch. So I am deciding on the WD TV Live Plus for the many codecs, content display feature and the fact that you can plus two USB Drives.
Now, I beleive that to start I can plus a 2TB. Which is the best one? Desktop or Portable? Portable will give me the advantage to unplug the drive, connect to my PC copy the file and then re-connect to the WDTV. But are they fast Enough? Desktop will give more storage, but I need to disconnect the USB from the back, plug another USB from my computer, transfer and then re-conect…its a pain to do that, besides having to place the computer right next to the drive while is transfering.
Which one is better, faster and more conveniente…any help will be very much appreciated.
I’ve had no problems using a portable WD Passport Essential 750GB (portable = no external power supply). I have a 1GB WD Elements SE too, and I suppose it’ll work too (that’s the plan), but I must admit I haven’t tried it yet.
I absolutely prefer the drives with no power supply, but I think I’ll go for a network harddisk instead when my current limit is reached.
Cocavanna, whats up with the USB 3.0, which is like 5. gbps versus regular 450 bpm? I am looking at the destop WD my book 2TB and also get WD passport to transfer the files, but I see that the WD my Book has both USB’s 2.0 and 3.0, but says that the 3.0 is not available, but when it does, it will be faster.
