Can access all content through file explorer even when password has been set

I have set a password to my desktop app, to each account on my device, and have set everything to private.

But if I go to my file explorer, under “Network”, there I can see “MyCloud” and if i double click on it, i can acces all content on it. WHY??? I dont want anyone to access this stuff. Is there some kind of settings I need to change for this to become “Private” and only be accessed with password??? I was very dissapointed when I found this out.

How do you have the “share” folder setting configured for each user? Once you make a shared folder private, each user’s access to that share can be configured to either; no access, read only access, or read write access. Its possible the reason why your seeing all the data is because either you have not configured the user permissions properly for each private share or your user account (on the WD My Cloud) is configured with read write access for all shares.

If you have not read the WD My Cloud User Manual, it is advisable you do so. Managing shares is covered in Chapter 8. In particular the subsection called “Making a Share Private” covers how to set the user permissions for a user to prevent or limit their access to a shared folder.

I have 2 users including myself. And each user has a share which is private and password protected (through the wd my cloud software). Besides that, there’s a “Public” share, which doesn’t have anything in it yet. Any ideas? Thanks for your help and time btw!

If you made the permission changes after the users already connected to the NAS, the changes won’t take effect until the My Cloud or the PC’s are rebooted.

Okay. Makes sense. I don’t think the my cloud device has rebooted since I plugged it in. I’ll reboot it when I get home later today. Thanks! I’ll let you know how it goes.
