Public Read Only & Password required when accessing device?

Hi, is it possible to get a public, read only, setting so that I can read/write to a folder but all other users can only read from it ?

Also when accessing the mycloud folder from my other windows 7 pc’s it immediately asks for a password. This means that any random user cannot even access the default public folder without inputting some username. Is that normal ???

Thanks

  1. Yes, Page 57 of the User Manual indicates this is possible (Except for the default “Public” share).

  2. This is a Windows Credential Manager issue. You may have to change the security level on said system.

Regards,

Hi, thanks for the response !

  1. I believe it is not possible. I want a folder/share where any user can only read from but I can read/write to. Strangely enough, this doesn’t seem to be possible with the my cloud  I would have to manually specifiy every user that I want to give read only access to while any un-specified user would have no access at all. This isn’t what I want to achieve.

I would like for any person who connects to my network (may be firends or family) to be able to ,say, access my music but not mess with it. Yet my user must retain full read/right access.

This feature exists on windows as read-only shared public folders so seems very werid WD didn’t implement something similar.

Thanks !
