I just purchased a WD15EARX. My computer doesn’t see it (the drive has been tested - is good), and I’ve been told by several people that my particular MoBo (Compaq/HP/ASUS A7V8X-LA) will not see a SATA drive faster than 1.5Gb/s. There is a jumper setting shown ( http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/search/1/a_id/1679#jumper) for throttling the drive down to 3Gb/s, but none for 1.5Gb/s. Probably wishful thinking, but is there an unshown/undocumented jumper setting which will slow it to 1.5Gb/s?
Thanks Wizer. I knew about the 3.5Gb/s drive that can be throttled back to 1.5Gb/s. I was trying to avoid sending the one I have back to New Egg for an exchange with that one (plus shipping and re-stocking costs). But that may be the best option. The risk with that is that there may be other reasons this MoBo will not work with it, and that I won’t discover that until I try it.
If a way to slow this one back to 1.5 doesn’t surface in a few days, that is likely what I will do.
You might try calling Asus and checking if they have a bios update or will RMA the board to fix that defect. It certainly is supposed to work with a drive capable of 6 Gbps even if the drive has to fall back to 1.5 Gpbs, which is supposed to happen automatically.
Hi one of my pc’s is a via chipset running a amd athlon 64 3700 + socket 754 lol it runs well for internet stuff. Anyway its the same chip set thats on your board and im running a 1 tb sata 2 drive jumpered to sata 1 so it will work.
