I bought a brand-new 4tb WD blue from an online store, i attach it and from the beginning i had problems, it made my pc start and turn off, start and turn off, no display on the monitor, eventually after some time, 2, 5, 10 or more minutes doing this it would start correctly with display on the monitor.
I transfer some important data and documents(a copy of them), after few days i couldn’t start the pc, it was the same problem but now it took longer, and it didn’t seem it will start (i know it was the HDD since as soon as i removed it, the pc started).
I changed the SATA cables multiple times, screw them off and changed the slot where it was attached, eventually again i got it.
Now i had to install the system, i couldn’t get the USB to detect a bootable device which in this case it was a USB, so i had to reboot it multiple times and look it up online why it doesn’t detect it, this has nothing to do with the HDD, but then again i had troubles to start the PC with any display on the screen, again after some time, it stared, this time it was detected in the BIOS, but as soon as i started my system, there was nothing, i restart the system, look up again, the HDD was detected in BIOS, but nothing in the system.
Again this caused the need to detach the HDD, check the cables again, and after some time the main issue happened, the L shaped attachment for SATA, the plastic that holds the pins broke… I didn’t use much strength more strength than i did before, i have 2 other WD HDD which have more than a decade, and nothing like this ever happened, i detach them when i clean the pc but now a brand-new HDD and something like this happens after a week.
Now, if i wouldn’t have any data there, i would simply demand a replacement, but because i have it, now i can’t send the HDD for replacement, and i know very well that the data has to be sanitized to make it nearly unrecoverable.
I see there’s a separate piece that can be screwed off and replaced, in this way i could attach it, sanitize the data, and send it for replacement.
I add an image showing what’s broken in red and what i suspect could be replaced in blue.
I should demand from WD to send me a piece like this, or at least buy it somewhere else so i can properly attach the HDD and remove the data.
Last day i got it running using a tape and the HDD was detected in the system, but after some time it wasn’t there anymore.
I tried to glue the SATA cable with the power one, and then attach them both, the HDD was detected but only in the bios as well in boot options, but if i try to boot the system on it, windows throws blue screen and shuts down the pc.
What to do then?
