Compatible drives

Hi All,

Does anyone have experience with or know if this drive will work in the DX4000,

WD2003FYYS - Western Digital RE4 2TB SATA2 7200RPM 64MB Cache 3.5in Hard Drive?

http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=52000&vpn=WD2003FYYS&manufacture=Western%20Digital%20WD

It seems to have the same specs as the direct replacement, WD2002FYPS-02W3B1.

I currently have 4 2TB drives in my DX4000. but one just failed and I cannot find the direct replacement in stock or available anywhere in Canada. Those sites that do list it show it as out of stock.

Thanks for your help.

Tony

My Guess is no.  As in the lsit is very specific.  Folks have tried drives that simply had a diff version after the dash and they would not work.

If you can find the 3tb drive it has worked for other(s)  Just used 2 of the 3 tb obviously

The drive you have isn’t compatible with WD Sentinel DX4000.

You may look up the list of compatible drives within the Dasbhoard, under Monitor Tab and then click on the Compatible Drives link on the right tasks menu.

Additionally, the link below on WD Knowledge Base provides the list of compatible drives for WD Sentinel DX4000 & RX4100:

HTH!

looks like amazon.ca has them

Thanks Gramps, but unfortunatley, the 3TB version is hard to find as well. I’d gladly pay a little extra and lose the extra gig to get my server back to 100%.

gvineet53, I have looked at that page already and mentioned in my original post that I can’t find a direct replacement. Of the four “approved” drives, none seem to be available anywhere and those that do list it show it as backordered forever.

I understand WD’s philosophy that they want to provide the best data protection with the best drives available. I understand why the Green and Blue drives won’t work, but why does WD limit an otherwise excellent server to 4 unatainable drives? WD makes other drives that are just as good and I should be able to use those. I may have to put the DX4000 out to pasture and move the three remaining good drives into a more flexible environment.

Would be a shame as the DX4000 8TB model was quite expensive, but on the other hand, it just recovered a crashed PC for me in under 4 1/2 hours. Not sure what other backup solution can do that.

I wonder how long the server will operate on three drives with that annoying red light? Here’s to livin on the edge!

Thanks for looking Gramps, I can see why you are an “esteemed contributor”! Yes I did see that Amazon had them, but when I went to check out was informed they were backordered. I also hoped to get one sooner rather than later, but later is better than never I guess, I’ll keep trying.

Cheers,

Tony

I did find this drive,

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7648779&CatId=139

Says it is for the DX4000. I didn’t find it before because I was always searching for the drive model number. Ordering it now, hopefully it will work out.

Cheers,

Tony
