I have jsut bought to TV Live Hub and want to connect it to my PC - I don’t have a network - is it possible to connect it direct to my PC (like an external hard drive) and then just copy files across? If so what cables do I need to buy as all I got in the box was the power cable?
No. The USB connections are just for external drives/keyboard, imagine the box as a little PC same setup really.
Best you are going to be able to do is connect an external drive and copy from that to the internal.
Or just watch from the connected external drive.
But wouldn’t the hard drive on my PC be essentially the same thing as an external hard drive?
Although I have also bought the My Book Essentials hard drive - so are you suggesting I could copy from my PC hard drive to here and then move what I need from here to the internal drive of the Live Hub?
Sorry this might sound a bit simple - but I am a bit new to this type of media. Has always been physical discs up until now
Yes, you can do it both ways.
You can watch from the My Book Essentials
or, you can copy from the My Book Essentials to the internal disk and watch from there.
Curious, why did you buy a network media player if you have no network?
Hmm good point
I really thought it was a simple media centre with an internal memory cpacity which I could use to store films. The other options I read about didn’t have any internal memory.
Maybe it was a wrong choice
It would be like trying to connect a laptop to a PC through a USB connection, can’t be done.
I agree and I would not buy a Media Player with an Internal drive again, even over a wired network the time taken to copy files to the internal is really quite painful, and wireless is a real waste of ones life.
It will the the same from external to internal, so the internal drive is a bit of a pain to be fair. I think WD must have sussed that as well because the next model never had one. ![]()
Thanks guys

So you do not have a Internet Router that has Lan Ports at the back?
If you got a Lan Cross Over Cable you could connect you PC LAN port to the Hubs LAN port… but i would presume the PC Lan port is being used up for your Internet?
my setup is very simple… My Internet Router has 4 LAN Ports on the back, so PC, HUB are connect to it.
we have wifi at home - come in via the TV cable to a modem and then goes to a wifi router but that box doesn’t have any available connections. Maybe I should simply try and replace that with something that has available ports. I assume putting a hub between the modem and the wifi router (TP Link?) wouldn’t work??
So new at this ![]()
hey newbie,
are u using any external drives or nas as a back up?
i use a nas to back up the hub but use a small external drive to facilitate the transfers.Might seem like extra work , but will solve your transfer problem, plus the wired external drive has faster transfer speeds than a wireless connection.
Good Luck
Seems what I bought wasn’t what I needed.
We are moving overseas soon - so rather than carrying all my sons DVDs (and to save th discs getting any more scratched when he plays them) I wanted to rip and store them - transport them - then play via a media player when we get to our destination.
I decided the TVLive was a good option as it had internal hard drive. I then bought an additional external devive (My Book essential 2TB) to give me more storage.
I thought I could connect the TV kive hub to my PC the same way you could an external drive and simply copy files across (but this was my mistake).
So it now seems I will just transfer files to the MyBook and then plug this to the TVLive hub and play from there (and hopefully work out (if possible) how to transfer some of my sons’s favourite discs to the media player so its easier for him to watch.
