Connecting to WD from computer

I can set up sharing from the WD TV Live SMB (it’s unfortunate they use the same term for both, but I mean the kind that allows you to connect TO the WD from a computer).  If I don’t set password protection, it works, and I can copy files to and from the attached USB drive from a remote computer (although sometimes the connection drops for no apparent reason).

What I can’t figure out is password protection.  It’s not mentioned in the User’s Guide, but there it is after you enable sharing.  Again, no documentation, but it apparently requires a capital, lowercase, and number, because without it the thing just stares back at you stupidly.  So then you go to the computer, try to connect, but you have to enter a username as well as the password you set.  What is the necessary username?

Thanks, Jim

well the necessary username is the name of the user from the computer that you are using to access the media player.

Example if your username on that  computer is glorious1, that the name that you need to use as a username on the media player

Thanks, that got me on the right track.  This time when I set up the password on the WD, it actually had me enter a username first then a password.  Not sure if that didn’t happen before or I just didn’t see the heading on the entry.  Anyway, it does work with the username and password I set on the WD.  Thanks!
