Connecting WDTV live to Computer monitor using a HDMI to DVD-D cable

I bouught a refurb WDTV live and tried to connect it using the above setup, but I couldn’t get a picture, the WDTV boot logo would appear and then the monitor would come on and off repeatedly.

I then tried the same using an analouge connection onto my standard def tv using composite cables, but stil could not get a picture so I quit trying.

I heard that the HDMI connection communicates with the unit, and I not wondeering whether I just received a bad unit or I messed it up by trying to connect the WDTV live onto a DVD-D monitor.

I since then returned the WDTV live refurb, and bought a brand new unit for a little bit more money.

Can someone tell me if it’s possible to connect the WDTV live using HDMI connection, and whether I should do this on the initial setup,

I don’t have a HDMI tv, but I do have a composite TV

Cheers.

Karim

Maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this. You can do so either by phone or email.

You should be able to connect your WD TV Live using the adapter.

Your WDTV Live HDMI output is not handshaking with the monitor HDMI input. You will need to manually setup the HDMI handshaking both on the WDTV Live and the monitor. There are a number of guides on this site and on the internet explaining the procedure.
