Direct Connection MyCloud to Laptop via Ethernet

So I have 750GB of movies on a USB hard drive that I need to put on the My Cloud. Can anyone provide a step by step guide on how to set up a direct connection from Laptop to My Cloud via ethernet?

I have already tried plugging USB drive into back of My Cloud, then connecting my laptop to router via ethernet to get a good copying speed. Speed was jumping all over the place - up at 15mb/s, then dropping to 2mb/s. Turns out my router isn’t gigabit, but my laptop is. Figured the best way to do this is direct connection between laptop and My Cloud where both are Gigabit? Ny USB drive is USB2.

Cheers

are you connecting via ethernet cable from your modem to laptop, or from wireless router to laptop?

i transferred about 150GB of small files, mostly pics and short videos, when i got this last week, and at first i did it wirelessly, which took forever.  i called support and they said connect the mycloud drive directly to laptop via ethernet cable…so, you have your laptop connected to internet via wireless router, or however…then you have your mycloud device connected to your laptop via the ethernet cable provided…the transfer speed on mine was about 11MB/second…not the fastest, but it got the job done

My modem/router are one box, so I connected laptop to wireless router via ethernet cable to then access the My Cloud.

So you connected your My Cloud and latpop together via ethernet cable? Did you need to change any network settings to match IP addresses etc?

did not need to change settings, except to turn ON my LAN network connection, which was turned off, but that was due to some wireless issues i was having

so yes, connect w ethernet mycloud—>laptop, and you are good to go
