Hi
Great forum!
I just have a request for a future firmware feature (if possible): I have the WDTVLiveHub device connected via HDMI to a digital receiver (Harmon Kardon 255). The receiver has two zones and I’d like to be able to play music on Zone 2 (outside) from the WDTV while playing a movie (Bluray player) or watching TV (Topfield PVR) on Zone 1 (inside). Unfortunately the WDTV doesn’t output on both stereo and digital simulataneously so there’s no way of doing this as once the digital input to the HK is switched to another source, the WDTV output is no longer available.
I have tried selecting the stereo output on the WDTV but this doesn’t seem to work. I assume the HDMI takes priority if it’s connected. Is this correct? If both the digital and analog outputs were active then I could configure the analog to play on zone two while switching the digital (hdmi) to another source on the receiver.
Anyone got any bright ideas??
Cheers
Rob
Yeah get a Hifi unit.
It’s not just the outputs surely, you cant watch a Movie and play music together anyway ?
So what difference does it make.
As mentioned in my first post: Zone 2 is OUTSIDE and Zone 1 is INSIDE the house. It’s good to play music outside while entertaining while the kids can watch a movie inside. At the moment we use an ipod/iphone connected to the aux port on the HK which is set to play on Zone 2. It would be more useful to use the music stream from the WDTV with the media player play lists etc …
I understand.
But you cant watch a Movie and play music.
That’s a heck of a feature request.
Since you can’t have the WDTV do two different things at the same time, it’s not going to work.
In other words, you can’t have it start playing AUDIO files out the STEREO outputs at the same time as it’s playing AUDIO / VIDEO files out the HDMI output.
To do that would be an extreme makeover. I’m not even sure the Sigma SoC that runs the box is capable of doing that.
No, but I can be outside listening to music while someone else is inside watching a movie…
I guess my other question was: can you enable the stereo analog outputs on the WDTV when there’s a hdmi cable connected? This doesn’t seem to work.
No, but I can be outside listening to music while someone else is inside watching a movie…
Are you not reading what we are typing. We know what you want to do, and why…but tht will not make it happen.
It is impossible to watch a Movie and listen to music at the same time. You are asking for two different sources, so you need two different boxes to do both. Or the box and an Ipod
You have also missed my point: I ONLY want to stream music from the WDTV in this senerio. The video will come from either a bluray player OR aTopfield PVR. Please read my first post!
I need to take an analog signal off the WDTV for the music stream but don’t seem to be able to do this with a hdmi cable connected EVEN if I select stereo on the WDTV.
Ha, it must be the way your question is then, as both of us read it as that.
Im sure I read someone else is listening to music through analouge, so I think its doable.
Accchh! My bad, Griffin. Sorry about that!
Unfortunately, the only way to RELIABLY do that is to set the mode to STEREO before you try to make use of the RED / WHITE analog outputs.
The Hub isn’t capable of doing simultaneous HDMI output of 5.1 audio and downmixing STEREO audio to the analog.
OK, so now we’re all on the same page! :-) Must be my Australian accent aye mate?
So I can switch the audio output to stereo, reboot and then the WDTV should output on analog? Or will this still go via the hdmi. I’ll have a play and see if I can’t get something happening.
I know the WDTV currently won’t do both formats at the same time hence the ‘feature request’. My PVR does do this so I would assume it’s possible.
Cheers
It’s really hard to say, not knowing the specs of your AVR, but it sounds like it won’t except 2 HDMI connections at the same time for each zone. So the problem seems to be more with your AVR than the HUB.
As TonyPH12345 said, your only real option seems to be to connect the HUB to the AVR via the RCA jacks then select the HUB to output as stereo.

You don’t need to reboot after changing that setting; it takes effect immediately.
My understanding is that if you change to STEREO, it will output SIMULTANEOUS over both the ANALOG and the HDMI port, but the HDMI will only be carrying 2 channels.
I don’t know if it will work with an HDMI connection, but mine is outputting stereo simultaneously via the analog and optical outputs (one goes to my TV and one goes to my stereo receiver).
Well I have had some success. I have set the WDTV to Stereo and connected the stereo plus a composite video to an analog input on the receiver. This works ok - not sure why it wasn’t before. I have also reprogrammed the harmony one to select zone 2 and switch inputs so I can change zone 1 to DVD / PVR while zone 2 plays music.
Selecting the hdmi input also works with the stereo input selected. I just have to remember to change the audio back to hdmi when I watch a movie via the Hub. A bit of a pain but workable.
So, back to the firmware feature request - maybe - at some point - if possible… hdmi and decoded stereo simultaneously??
Thank you everyone for your input.
Cheers

I also use an ipod(touch) for playing music outside, if it is an ipod touch you have, then why not use an app like Plugplayer to stream the music to your outside zone - It works great!
