Hi, my Generation 2 Single Bay My Cloud is starting to fail, (It was bought 4 years ago refurbished from WD so I have no real complaints). As a possible alternative I’m looking at a refurbished (unpopulated) EX2 Ultra and wondered what differences (advantages and disadvantages) I’m likely to see between these 2 models? For the foreseeable future it will only have 1 drive in use, if that makes any difference, and only be used as storage for media (which is already backed-up), feeding a Vero 4k,so no transcoding required. Thanks,
Andy
Better processor.
All operations will be faster.
The software is basically similar; as is the feature set. . .but the performance is a bit snappier.
Also, IIRC, the O/S is on the HDD in the single bay units, and in the ROM of the EX2’s (don’t quote me on that). That means that it is easier to recover from a HDD problem on the EX2.
Not to mention the fact that the EX2 is intended to have swappable HDD’s. . . which is not a feature for the single bay units.
NOT TO MENTION: the single bay MyClouds are obsolete. Can’t get them anymore. The MyCloud HOME units are a completely different animal. Software and functionality is severely nerfed and require contact with WD servers. . . Avoid like a plague. In the WD world; I would start with the EX2’s.
Thanks for that. It’s what I was hoping to hear.
