Re:think now the Ex2 has been released anyone?

How many MyCloud and MyBook Live owners are intending to re-think their purchase now the real deal has been released i.e. The MyCloud Ex2?

I’m certainly looking for something that offers better redundancy than a single drive plus safepoints. I’m currently looking at a 2 bay solution from either Synology, Qnap or the new MyCloud Ex2.

The Ex2 is getting some good reviews, it looks like a good well thought out robust design with easy to remove HDD’s. Some reviewers think the software doesn’t offer enough options compared to the opposition, but I am a believer that less is often more.

According to “someone” reviewer, the ex2 is getting 70MB/s writes and over a 100MB/s reads which is much faster then most NAS plus you can get mirrored drives, so basically this will replace both my WD MyCloud and MyBook in a single serving.

The only drawback is the price though, costing as much as $550 + tax, where-as MyCloud($190) and MyBook($169) was affordable. Perhaps I could pick the enclosure without drive $200 and strip the 4TB drives from my Mycloud and Mybook

Definitely interesting…

Most NAS now use WD Reds as the de-facto drives though.

"Perhaps I could pick the enclosure without drive $200 and strip the 4TB drives from my Mycloud and Mybook "

That would be a great deal if you could also strip out the software.

I might be mistaken but I think the firmware is on the chip not on the drives so that shouldn’t be an issue.

I have seen it and watched a video about it. I like it. The My Cloud EX2 is something I will probably buy next when I want to replace My Cloud.
