EX4 as server storage

Hi all, I have an EX4 and would like to use it as our main server storage for files all computers in office would have access to. First of all, is that a good idea, second, since it is rather slow, would it be wise first to put all files on storage with hd connected to a pc?

The unit can join a Windows Active Directory and allows for volume virtualization. Such features are designed with server storage in mind.

If your unit is slow then it would be best to double-check your network structure. Are there any 10/100 switches on your network? They can be a bottleneck.

Hi Trancer, thanks for clearing that out. There is another issue I cant seem to sort out. I have 2x4tb reds setup as JBOD so that I can have 2 different folders, but I dont see an option to have it shown split, everything I put on EX4 goes on one HD. Do files automatically go to second HD once the first one is full?

Any help regarding this problem would very welcome! Is there a way to access second HD in JBOD mode? Now I can use only one HD, so the second one is completely empty and I`m running out of free space. Since I need at least 8tb of disk space, should I buy additional 2 4tb Reds and setup all 4 in RAID5 to have 8tb of disk space?
