Extremely Slow Performance

I purchased a 3TB Mycloud to backup my collection of digital photos.

At first I was really impressed with how easy it was to install and setup on my iMac. But when I started transferring data I noticed it was extremely slow.

I have tried several configurations of my network from connecting it to my router and transferring

Currently I have it connected via a thunderbolt to gigabit adapter.

When I copy a folder of photos I get a transfer time for 53GB of pictures of 4 hours. I leave come 8 hours later and still have a transfer time of 4 hours and only 50% complete.

I have the latest firmware installed and googled for possible solutions.

I also noticed that if there is a large amount of files in a folder on the drive it will not show up in the finder window but i can open the My Cloud App and see all the photos

Very Disappointed with this product

Found this information on the apple site and switched from AFP to SMB and this greatly speed up the drive

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5884

After changing to smb mode and turning the drive sleep option off I am averaging between 3-5 mb/s and having no problems yet

It is better than the 50kb I was getting. I have seen it as hi as 30mb but with everything I am transferring I can’t complain

Now here is something else I just found out. If I have 1 gig of individual pictures when I transfer them to mycloud it takes about 20 minutes. But if a take a compressed file that is 1 gig in size it only takes about 1 minute. Does this make sense?

Sure.  Sending large files is always more efficient.
