Filtering, Genres, Movies, Music Videos, TV shows and such

Hello,

First off, I’m using the default theme and almost exclusively the Gallery view therein…

Along with everyone else, when Filter|All is selected you see everything with everything intermixed, because, well, “All” means ALL. I’d like to be able to include or exclude media “sources” (Movie vs TV vs Music Videos, etc) in the resultant display. Is this possible to do, perhaps with multiple genre tags/fields in the XML files?

I do see that there is a (new?? - not entirely sure when that option was added!!) filtering option for “TV shows” that allows display of exclusively TV content. Not sure how that filtering is done as there is no mention of TV in the genre tags of those TV XML files so I assume that if one or more fields like “series_name” “episode_name” “season_number” “episode_number” or “firstaired” are found in the XML then it is seen as a TV show.

I guess one brute force solution would be to edit all the TV show and Music Video XML files to add perhaps "ZTV: " and "ZMV: " to each “title” field to force them to go to the end of the line so to speak. Seems kind of clumsy to do it that way so I’m hoping people more familiar with this situation have a more elegant solution.

Thanks,

Seems like I have been wearing this reply out as of late but you can create a playlist or several of them. You can just put tv shows in there or what not I have a separate  playlist for each popular actor and of all my media on all drives

Thanks for the response.

Perhaps playlists would be the (only??) answer but the little I’ve read about them seems like a fair bit of work every time I add new media. My understanding is that I need to create and manage the lists on the PC and copy updated lists to the hub. I’ll create a small list, try it and see how it feels. I was hoping there was a way to do it with multiple genre selections but it appears the hub only looks at the first one in the list within each XML file, so maybe you can’t get there from here.

The best solution is just to create seperate folder, then filter by folders.

So you will a folder for Movies and a folder for TV shows, then just sort them into Genre folder or each show folder.

Like this:

Movies (folder)

   Action (folder)

       Moviefile1.mkv

       Moviefile 2.mkv

       etc.

   Adventure (folder)

        Moviefile 1.mkv

        Moviefile 2.mkv

        etc.

and so on.

Then for TV Shows:

TV Shows (folder)

     Show (folder)

          Season 1 (folder)

                  Season1Episode1.mkv

                  Season1Episode2.mkv

                  etc.

            Season 2 (folder)

                  Season2Episode1.mkv

                  Season2Episode2.mkv

                  etc.

and so on.
