Firmware update went horribly wrong

Hello,

I searched the forum for someone that’s had a similar problem but I haven’t come across anyone.

Here’s the deal, I was in the process of updating my firmware to the latest version (I know it’s since been taken down). I was using the USB method. i.e. downloading the files and loading them to a USB drive.

Things were going smoothly until I got to the actual update. (image number 7 on this page:  http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5800/))

It sat at 0% forever. I unplugged it, plugged it back in and it did the same thing. I tried this several times, I tried different verions of the firmware. (note, the reset button does nothing at this point).

I tried a few different things and things seemed to get worse.

The only screen I currently get is a screen that says:

“insert a USB drive with firmware to recover your WDTV”

When I insert the drive it doesn’t recognize it.

I’m stuck here

Anyone have any thoughts?

Is your USB drive formatted as FAT32?

Did you put the 3 firmware upgrade files in the root directory of the USB drive?

If you have already done that, you can try re-formatting your USB drive (FAT32) and try upgrading again.
