Firmware update

Hi everyone New to the  comunity.

I have wd hd tv gene 1 with firmware version 1.01.02, and I’m ready to update to the latest 1.03 version…

question:  if anything goes wrong can I go back to the previous firmaware?

thanks

Yes, you can roll back if you have a copy of the 1.01.02 firmware that you want to go back to.

If you don’t have the 1.01.02 update .zip, I don’t know if you’d be able to find it hosted anywhere, but chances are good… WD doesn’t seem to have it hosted… if you don’t still have the 1.01.02 .zip yourself, and can’t find it through Google (maybe hosted on Rapidshare, or something?), then no, you wouldn’t be able to rollback.

OK thanks.

Just wanted to make sure updating process was secure. I don’t know if any one has had problems after updating firmware .

I never had any issues updating my Gen1, if that’s any encouragement.

But, as I said, rolling back is simple if you have the files, and impossible if you don’t.

All you have to do is edit the “wdtv.ver” file in Notepad  of the firmware you want to rollback to, and change the version number to something higher than what’s currently on your WDTV.  Then, when you install those files to the root of the USB drive and boot the WDTV, it will look for the update files, check the version, think it’s “newer”, and ask if you want to install it.

As long as you don’t try to do it in the middle of a thunderstorm, when the power’s likely to go out, there’s very little to go wrong with the actual updating.  There was an issue, once upon a time, with some of the WDTV Live boxes, but it doesn’t affect the Gen1.  I’ve never heard of any issues of the update itself “going wrong”, and as I said, it’s always worked for me.
