I’ve had my Western Digital Media Player for roughly 2 years now and so far I’ve loved it. However, it suddenly stopped working 2 weeks ago. I have it connected to my Sony KDF46E2000 television which has been the same set I’ve used with it since I bought it. I have it connected via HDMI and component. Now, when I attempt to play movies from my hard drives I get the WD menu and can see all of the movie files on screen, however when I press play it simply goes to a black screen. At first I thought it might be the HDMI so I swapped it with a new one and it did the same thing. Then I tried playing movies through the component and it went to black as well. I even swapped out different component cables and nada. So, I borrowed a friends WD Media Player, assuming that mine was broken, and low and behold it didn’t work either. Now, the funny thing is I had just finished watching a movie about 5 minutes before it stopped working. I didn’t make any upgrades to the firmware, or change anything connected to the player or the television. I’ve tried it with my other hard drives and none work. I’ve even reset the WD player via the small reset button on the side. I can watch hi def video from other sources through the same input channel on my set so I don’t think its the video processing board. Any ideas as to why, without anything being touched or any setting being changed, the media player just stopped playing movie files? I literally got up to grab something to drink after watching a movie and when I sat back down it stopped playing files. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My first guess would be that you played a .mkv with compressed headers.
This forum is for the WDTV Live only. As your WDTV is 2 years old I assume that you have a WDTV HD gen1 or 2 and not a live.
What’s the model number on the WD TV?
