Help My Cloud Storage nearly full!

Hi
Have been using My Cloud for about 5 years now, with no trouble, but noticed the other day that the hard drive is nearly full!! Please how can I delete earlier files that I no longer need without deleting my picture files?

@joanchop What program are you using to do your backups, if any? Are you on a Windows PC? If answer is yes, what operating system, is it Windows 10 etc.?

Hi
Thanks for replying. Using Windows 10 PC.

Are you using WD Sync?

Not sure what you mean by WD sync? I use WD Smartware to back up from PC to My Cloud.

WD Sync is another piece of software that one can use to “sync” files to the My Cloud. A sync and a backup are two different actions/tasks. There is a known bug/issue where users who are using WD Sync have found the program filled their hard drive and they cannot figure why the drive is full.

If you are not using WD Sync then it’s possible you have filled your My Cloud through normal use.

One can use Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder to remove any unneeded files from the My Cloud. One can review WD Smartware settings to change how a backup is performed to reduce space. See the Smartware user manual or embedded Smartware Help for more information on how to use that program.

On a side note, one can attach a USB hard drive to the My Cloud USB port to expand the storage space. The USB hard drive will show up as a new Share.

Many thanks Bennor for a useful reply. What you say now makes sense. MyCloud.com is showing plenty space, probably because I’d not used WD Sync, but the Smartware is showing full. Think I know the way forward now but will be back if I get stuck.
Thanks for your help.
